What is Intuitive Movement
Intuitive Fitness, or Intuitive Movement, is an approach to health, fitness, movement, and exercise that is compassionate, science-backed, and encouraging to people of all body shapes, sizes, and abilities. Quite simply, it is the idea that moving your body can feel good and be shame-free.
By taking the time and effort to learn how to listen to your body, you will create a better relationship with your body and everything that it can do, which makes you feel better in your body, as well as feel better about your body.
It’s a way to think about and approach fitness so that you create a healthy, happy, long term relationship with your body. Because I’m here to help you play the long game, baby!
💭“Imagine waking up and choosing a workout based on what feels GOOD, not what burns the most calories.”
What Intuitive Movement Isn’t
Maybe the easiest way to explain what Intuitive Fitness is, is to explain what it’s not.
Intuitive Movement & Fitness is not focused on changing the size or shape of your body, or setting aesthetic body goals. Rather, it’s all about how you feel, both during and after you exercise, which helps to dictate what kind of workouts you do.
Because when you focus on how exercise makes you feel, you can measure success instantly! So you don’t need to wait 3 months to “see the results.” You know immediately what positive impact it has on you.
Intuitive Fitness is not about “giving up on yourself” or “letting yourself go.” (Both of which are very cruel things to say or think about anyone, most of all yourself.) Instead, Intuitive Fitness is about being caring, understanding, and compassionate with yourself so that you can build your health and fitness journey in a way that fits for you.
If the traditional advice of health and fitness worked for everyone, then it would have worked for you by now! But in reality, it doesn’t work for most people–myself included. That’s not a moral failure on our part. Rather, it’s a failure on the part of traditional fitness!
🤭”If punishing workouts worked, we’d all look like super models by now, right?”
Listening to Your Body vs. Toxic Fitness Culture
I created Intuitive Fitness because in trying to find a health & fitness routine that worked for me, I realized there was a villain thwarting me at every turn.
That villain? Toxic Fitness Culture.
Traditional fitness advice is full of rules about what kind of exercises we should & shouldn’t be doing, how hard we need to be working, leaving us exhausted, sore, and burnt out, and how we need to ignore our body’s cues to push through pain.
Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Intuitive Movement is all about learning to listen to your body so that you move in a way that works for you. Much like our car’s dashboard full of lights, our body gives us signals, too.
But when Toxic Fitness Culture teaches us that we should ignore ourselves and instead listen only to the super shredded fitness guru, we blow right past that signal that was warning us that we were nearing our limit. That is exactly how we get injured, exhausted, and learn to hate exercise.
🚩”If you’re dreading your workout, it’s your body waving a red flag.”
Body Positivity, Body Neutrality, & Weight Neutrality
Because Intuitive Fitness is all about how you feel instead of how you look, I use the foundations of body & weight neutrality to help my clients discover what matters most to them, rather than using metrics like before & after photos or the scale to measure their progress.
That means Intuitive Fitness completely fits within your journey to body positivity, because we use movement as a way to celebrate the body you have, not try to change it to fit unrealistic beauty standards.
By reconnecting with your body with Intuitive Movement, you learn what kinds of things your body is capable of, you build your strength, and it suddenly becomes capable of even more than you thought. That creates the upward spiral of confidence, which helps prove to yourself that your body exists for so much more than simply what it looks like.
Body Neutrality is a core component of Intuitive Fitness, because that is the idea that our bodies deserve to be loved and cared for no matter what. So whether you are able to feel positively about the way your body looks or not, treating your body with kindness, compassion, and care is how we give our body the respect it deserves.
And because Intuitive Movement is not about losing weight, I use a completely weight neutral approach to health and exercise. If you can learn to listen to your body, feel better in your body, and move in ways that feel good to you, that is the most important metrics in your health, happiness, and longevity in sticking with fitness.
🙌 “You don’t have to earn your worth — and you sure as hell don’t have to shrink to deserve joy.”
Health At Every Size & Science
You may be wondering why Intuitive Fitness does not focus on weight loss. Great question.
Science.
There are many scientific reasons why, but just to name a few:
- exercise is not a very effective way to lose weight,
- there is absolutely no known way to lose weight and keep it off long term without severe side effects (nope, not even GLP-1s),
- exercising improves your health regardless of weight,
- Weight is not a behavior, but exercise is.
As a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, I am also a proponent of Health At Every SizeⓇ, which is the framework that I operate by.
By focusing on movement that feels good for you, is fun, and improving your relationship with your body, Intuitive Fitness acknowledges and celebrates the fact that all bodies are good bodies, and fitness doesn’t have a size.
🥰“Mantra: I move because I love myself, not to fix myself.”
Non Diet & Intuitive Eating
Since Intuitive Fitness does not focus on weight loss, you may have also noticed I haven’t mentioned anything about diet or food. That’s because I am also a non diet eating coach, specifically following Intuitive Eating.
In fact, my 10 Principles of Intuitive Movement are inspired by the 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating. Both of which are science-backed approaches to changing your relationship with exercise & food, respectively, in order to create a healthy, long-lasting impact on your body and life. Unlike diets and crash-and-burn workout programs that are unsustainable and leave you feeling worse in the long run, both Intuitive Eating & Fitness are about making the journey simple, safe, do-able, and enjoyable, so that you’ll not only stick with it, but you’ll feel better mentally, physically, and emotionally along the way.
So whether you’ve already been practicing Intuitive Eating and are now looking to heal your relationship with working out, or if you’re ready to start liking exercise again without letting diet culture sneak in, Intuitive Fitness is the perfect fit for you, no matter where you are on your journey.
🙉Spoiler: Your body already knows what it needs — it’s just been drowned out by noise.

Body Image & Confidence
Intuitive Fitness takes a holistic approach to health and fitness, by recognizing that our relationship with our body is formed by many different factors. That is why I have 3 main pillars of coaching: personal training, non-diet eating, and body image.
The patriarchal beauty standards we grow up with in the US make girls & women believe that our appearance is the most important thing about us, and specifically that we need to always look attractive to men. The way we are taught to adhere to these standards is by contorting & controlling the size and shape of our body by dieting, over exercising, and comparing how our body measures up to other women & girls.
When you realize all three of these things are interconnected, you will begin to understand why just losing weight doesn’t make you feel better about yourself. Or why when you start exercising more, you might even start eating “healthier,” but as soon as you stop working out regularly, your food choices also revert back to what you ate before.
By addressing how we think about, feel about, and how we move our body simultaneously, Intuitive Fitness is able to fast track your deep seated beliefs and habits that create lifetime changes. Because you will be learning more about yourself, your body, how it works, and what you want to do with it, you will create the confidence that simply adhering to beauty standards can never give you.
🏠“Confidence doesn’t come from fixing your body. It comes from coming home to your body.”
Feeling Good & Healthy Actions
It’s not your fault you keep falling for every fad diet and trendy workout challenge that comes your way: they promise the world and you just want to feel better in your body! Who wouldn’t want that?!
The problem is, traditional Toxic Diet and Fitness Culture feed on your insecurities and make you feel shame for not following their orders–or, even if you do, they blame you if you don’t get the results they promised.
When in reality, they aren’t trying to make you feel good. They are trying to make you feel better than other people. And THAT ain’t gonna fly in Intuitive Fitness!
The measure of success when it comes to Intuitive Movement isn’t by weighing yourself or shrinking your pant size. It’s created entirely by you! Every single person’s reason for moving is different, which means success is unique to each client. But the one thing every single one of my clients share is that they just want to take healthy actions to help them feel good in their body.
So rather than being triggered to workout because an intense wave of shame washed over you (think The Biggest Loser), I will help you discover your motivation and purpose for exercising that will make your choices come from a place of love for your body and yourself, instead of trying to prove anything to anyone.
🤝Your body isn’t a machine to control. It’s a partner to collaborate with.
Size Inclusive Personal Trainer
As a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, I do have the expertise to guide you through a workout program designed specifically for your goals. But my training doesn’t stop there.
I also am a Size Inclusive Training Academy Fitness Specialist, which means I have even more knowledge, skill, and practice working with folks in bigger bodies (including my own!). I know firsthand that oftentimes, the cues and moves that traditional personal trainers have had me do simply do not work for my body. It’s not because I’m “too out of shape” or “not good enough” to do the “correct” exercises. Rather, it’s because the physics of the moves change–and that’s true of many different bodies, not merely larger ones.
Being a weight neutral, size inclusive, fat positive personal trainer isn’t only about being able to offer variations and alternative moves for folks with bigger bodies, but it’s also about understanding and appreciating the trauma and harm that often comes when a large or fat person tries to use traditional fitness spaces. Weight bias in fitness is a very real experience, and I am here to help you discover the joy and benefits of exercise, while healing your relationship to it.
💗Let’s redefine what fitness means for you and embrace the beauty of diversity together!
