Unfortunately Toxic Fitness Culture & our activated nervous system tell us, “Oh no! You haven’t been exercising enough! You need to make up for all that lost time! I know… you should work out for a really long time right now, & that will make you feel better about being so lazy before.”

 

But what your body, mind, heart, & goals want, , is just a little time, but more frequently.

 

Doing one (or a few) major sessions where you try to “make up” for a previous lack of exercise does NOT help create a habit. Therefore, it does not help build resiliency. It does not allow you to progress & take it to the next level. Nor does it help you train for a specific goal or event.

 

Building a fitness habit is a lot like an automatic pet food dispenser: 

You cannot simply pour a week’s worth of kibble into a bowl while you’re out of town & hope they eat only a little at a time.

 

YOUR BRAIN IS THE CAT.

 

You will NOT ration the bowl of food. You will chow down on all of it. At once. Then what?

 

You are out of resources. For a while.

 

You must dole out the fitness practices at the appropriate times, or you will be living in a constant state of feast or famine.

 

And that is NOT the kind of habit you want to create (even if it happens at regular intervals). That is a reactionary pendulum swing.
