Our first lesson from Queen BeyâŠ
Welcome to theÂ
MOVEMENT RENAISSANCE
This weekâs SWAK is from my new beta test course MOVEMENT RENAISSANCE. If youâd like to join (for free!) and continue receiving these email lessons, sign up HERE.

This experience will be me using BeyoncĂ©âs album RENAISSANCE to introduce you to and hopefully help you embody all of the core principles of Intuitive Movement.
This is a MOVEMENT RENAISSANCE, led by the Queen Beyâs music
, facilitated by me (Deanna Beaton, if we havenât met yetâhi!).
And to kick us off, I want to ask you a very important question:
WHEREARETHEVISUALS?!
10 years ago (10 years, 1 month, & 1 day ago, to be exact⊠but whoâs counting?) she surprised the world with her digital drop of not only a full album, but also all of the accompanying music videos.
At once.
ALL OF IT.
Then, in 2016, she premiered her album LEMONADE on HBO, not merely as an album with music videos, but instead she invented a new mixed media art form called a âvisual albumââwhich is to say, the music was within an hour-long film of the same name.
Yet again, by the time we even knew an album was coming, she had already made and released the visuals to accompany her music.
2020, Black is King, same thing.
The woman wasâas they sayâmaking moves in silence.
But in 2022, when RENAISSANCE dropped, there was nary a visual, video, teaser, or image to be seenâŠ
We waited.
We got a 1:50 teaser video.
We waited longer.
We got a Kidz Bop video for CUFF IT. (Itâs a wild ride. Enjoy.)
We waited even longer.
We got A WHOLE DAMN WORLD TOUR. (Maybe you heard about it?)
We kept waiting, wondering
Then, finally, we gotâŠ
BeyoncĂ© herself telling us, âYou are the visuals, baby.â (We also got merch of it.)

THEN, we got a concert film, and it all started to make sense.
She wasnât going to give us âvisuals.â At least, not in the way we expected.
Or, more importantly, she wasnât going to DO EXTRA to make music videos for each song (not yet? TBD).
So, what exactly does this have to do with Intuitive Movement?
Arenât you tired?
Havenât you been making moves in silence for, like, ever?
I donât know about you, but BeyoncĂ© could have given us the audio album ONLY and then dropped off the face of the Earth forever, & I would have been eternally grateful. (I would have been sad and worried, too, but grateful nonetheless.)
She doesnât owe us visuals. (She doesnât owe us a damn thing, in fact.)
She realized she didnât have to make extra work for herself.
She didnât have to DO extra to BE extra.
When it comes to movement, are you convinced that the only way it can happen is if you make extra work for yourself?
Does it have to be MORE than what youâre already doing?
Are you giving yourself credit for what youâre already doing?
Or are you actually already performing an entire concert most days, and you just think youâre ALSO supposed to make music videos?
IS YOUR IDEA OF FITNESS SOMETHING YOU THINK YOUâRE EXPECTED TO PERFORM FOR THE WORLD TO PROVE THAT YOUâRE WORTHY OF YOUR BODY, HEALTH, AND LIFE?
Toxic Fitness Culture is all about âthe visuals.â BeyoncĂ© donât need âem, and neither do we!
PRACTICE:
This MLK Day, if you have the day offâbut especially if you donâtâI want you to luxuriate in and really feel into the rest and not doing that you are owed and allowed, simply for the mere fact of existing. You donât need to perform, achieve, or meet any other metric to earn your rest or trash your to-do list altogether.
