How an Online Personal Trainer Can Help You Ditch the Rules, Reclaim Joy, and Move for You:

Intuitive Movement Coaching

Forget Everything You’ve Been Told About Exercise

If you’ve been circling the same “start → crash → quit” loop for years, it’s not because you’re lazy, undisciplined, or “not cut out” for fitness.

It’s because you’ve been fed a steady diet of toxic fitness culture:

  • “No pain, no gain.”

  • “Earn your rest.”

  • “You need to look the part.”

That noise? Not science. Not truth. Just an entire industry designed to profit from your self-doubt.

Research backs this up: unrealistic beauty and fitness standards can harm motivation and body image, especially for women (Tiggemann & Zaccardo, 2015, link).

I’m a NASM certified personal trainer, but more importantly, I’m an online personal trainer for women who are done making exercise a punishment. My approach — Intuitive Fitness — is inspired by the 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating, but adapted to movement. We dismantle the fake “rules” about how and why you should work out, so you can discover your own reasons for moving and feeling good in your body.

The goal? To make the rules irrelevant and put you back in charge. 💪

5 Signs You’re Ready for a Different Kind of Online Personal Trainer

You might be ready for an online personal training coach if:

  1. You’ve been burned by programs that treated your body like a “before picture.”
You don’t want to be someone’s marketing prop. You want to be seen as a whole human.

  2. You’ve been stuck in the “start strong → burn out → quit” cycle.
Your past plans demanded more than your real life could give.

  3. You want results without sacrificing mental health.
Strength, energy, and confidence are on your radar — but not at the expense of joy.

  4. Exercise feels like a moral test you keep failing.
You’re tired of attaching your worth to whether or not you hit the gym five times a week.

  5. You want guidance from someone who sees your body as worthy right now.
No conditions. No waiting until you’re smaller. Worthy from day one.

🔥 Truth Bomb: You don’t need to change your body to deserve support. You deserve a coach who meets you where you are — not where they think you should be.

How to Start Online Personal Training Without Overwhelm

Starting something new doesn’t have to feel like a military operation. You don’t need to overhaul your entire life in one week to “earn” your spot in fitness.

Here’s how I walk beginners through how to start exercising for beginners without burning out:

  1. Find the right coach.
Look for someone whose values match yours. If they’re posting constant before-and-after pics, pushing strict meal plans, or selling “summer shred” programs? 🚩 Hard pass.

  2. Understand the tech needs.
You don’t need a home studio or expensive software. Usually, it’s as simple as a phone, tablet, or laptop with a camera. Pretty much everybody is a whiz at using Zoom these days, anyway!

  3. Set realistic expectations.
If you’re starting from zero, don’t set the bar at six workouts a week. We start with what’s doable this week — maybe one or two sessions — and build from there.

  4. Ease in, don’t dive headfirst.
Your body needs time to adjust. Pushing too hard, too soon, is the fastest way to hate your program (and potentially injure yourself).

  5. Consistency without perfection.
Imperfect movement beats perfect intentions every single time. If all you can do is ten minutes between meetings? That counts.

Pro Tip: 💡 Try This: When starting something new, ask: “What’s the kindest, most realistic step I could take today?” Then let that be enough.

The Pyramid Principle — The Best Way to Start Working Out

My super secret (not at all secret) tip: The best way to start working out is to make your first goal any consistent movement at all.

Think of it like a pyramid:

  • Base layer: “I showed up for movement today.”

  • Middle layer: “I’m starting to build habits and confidence.”

  • Top layer: “I can choose bigger goals because my foundation is strong.”

If you skip the base? The whole thing wobbles.

This is why working with an online personal trainer — especially one who understands real life — is the best way to start without burning out.

In fact, I’ve written a whole model and explanation of just this thing! Read all about my Fitness Priorities Pyramid here.

Real Talk: ❤️‍🔥Your fitness goals don’t need to be massive — they need to be repeatable.

Why This Works When Every Other Plan Has Failed

Most plans fail because they’re built for imaginary people with unlimited time and perfect energy.

Intuitive Fitness works because it’s built for real humans.

My Secret Weapon for Instant Wins

Every session starts with two questions:

  1. How do you feel right now?

  2. How do you want to feel after we move?

We build your workout around that. Then at the end, I ask again: How do you feel now? That’s your metric of success — not the scale, not the stopwatch.

How Online Coaching Can Transform Your Relationship with Exercise

When most people think about hiring an online personal trainer, they picture physical changes — more strength, more stamina, maybe more muscle definition. And yes, those can happen. But here’s the truth: for most of my clients, the biggest change is invisible.

It’s the way they feel about movement.

When you’ve spent years thinking of exercise as a chore, a punishment, or a way to “earn” food or rest, it’s no wonder it’s hard to stick with it. Online coaching, done the Intuitive Fitness way, rewrites that story.

  • From “I have to” → “I get to.”
We’re flipping the script here. Exercise isn’t a debt you owe to your health, your body, or anyone else’s opinion. It’s a choice you get to make for yourself. The moment movement stops being a “should” and starts being a “want,” it stops feeling heavy.

  • Self-trust over PRs.
I love a personal record (PR) as much as the next trainer, but if you don’t trust yourself to listen to your body, those PRs don’t mean much. Self-trust means knowing when to push harder and when to rest — without guilt.

  • Rest as a training tool.
Recovery isn’t optional. As Schoenfeld (2010) found, muscle growth and strength gains happen after training, when your body is resting. Rest days are where the magic happens.

  • Letting go of guilt.
Life will get in the way sometimes. A sick kid, a rough work week, travel — and suddenly your workout plan gets derailed. That doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’re a human being living a human life. Online coaching gives you the flexibility to adapt, so you can pick up where you left off without starting over.

This shift — from external pressure to internal permission — is the foundation for lifelong movement.

Rewriting Your Relationship With Exercise

I’ll say it plainly: you don’t have to love your body to respect it.

A lot of the fitness industry leans hard into body positivity, which sounds great… but for someone deep in body shame, it can feel like an impossible leap.

That’s why I focus on body neutrality instead — a concept grounded in research and championed by Drs. Lindsay & Lexie Kite in More Than a Body (link).

“Your body is an instrument, not an ornament.” — Lindsay & Lexie Kite

When you start viewing your body as an instrument, movement becomes about what your body can do, not how it looks while doing it.

As an online personal trainer for women, this is one of my favorite transformations to witness. Clients go from:

  • Picking workouts to “tone their arms” → Choosing workouts that help them carry their kids without pain.

  • Obsessing over “problem areas” → Noticing they can hike longer without needing a break.

  • Avoiding mirrors → Walking into the gym (or logging into our session) with confidence.

Real Talk: Body neutrality makes room for good days and bad days. It’s not about forcing positivity — it’s about creating a baseline of respect so you can show up for yourself regardless of mood or mirror.

Why I’m NOT Giving You A Beginner-Friendly At-Home Workout Plan (And What I Do Instead)

Here’s the truth: you don’t need another basic beginner workout routine.

There are millions of free bodyweight circuits online. The problem isn’t access.

The problem is that most of those plans weren’t made for you.

They don’t know your injuries, your energy levels, your relationship with exercise, your goals, or your trauma history.
They weren’t built to respond to your actual body.

And they sure as hell weren’t designed to help you feel enough.

That’s why I don’t offer one-size-fits-all PDFs or copy-paste workouts.
Because the magic isn’t in the moves — it’s in the coaching.

It’s in learning how to:

  • Define what “enough” means for you

  • Notice what feels good (and what doesn’t)

  • Adjust in real-time, with permission and curiosity

  • Build body awareness instead of bypassing it

That is what actually helps people feel stronger, safer, and more at home in their body.

So what do I offer instead?

Coaching-led movement experiences that help you reconnect with your body — and start building a whole new relationship with exercise.

I specialize in no-equipment workouts because they remove one of the biggest barriers to starting — the “I don’t have the right stuff” excuse. In my consent-based training approach, we:

  1. Define what “enough” means for you (yes, you get to decide).

  2. Ask for your body’s consent every step of the way.

  3. Build sensory awareness so you can feel what’s working and make adjustments.

The goal here isn’t to “leave it all on the floor.” It’s to feel a difference by the time you’re done — whether that’s more energy, less tension, or simply pride in showing up.

Making It Stick — From First Session to Lifelong Movement Freedom

Movement isn’t a 6-week challenge. It’s a lifelong relationship — and like any healthy relationship, it needs respect, adaptability, and joy to last.

The three pillars I teach every client:

  1. Adaptability – The “perfect plan” that falls apart during a busy week isn’t a good plan. Your training should flex with your life, not fight it.

  2. Pleasure – Yes, pleasure. If you never enjoy it, you’ll never stick with it. That doesn’t mean every rep feels amazing, but your workouts should give you something you want to come back for.

  3. Permission – Rest isn’t quitting. Rest is part of training. The strongest athletes in the world schedule it — so should you.

Doing something is enough. Whether that’s a five-minute stretch before bed, a walk on your lunch break, or a full strength session with me online. You don’t need perfection. You need something that feels good enough to repeat.
