Ultimate Guide to Optimal Health: It Doesn’t Exist

General knowledge says “health” means things like: eating vegetables, drinking water, everything in moderation, exercise, going to the doctor, etc.

Of course, how MUCH or how OFTEN you do those things is very much up for debate.

…But wait; if there is controversy around how much water to drink every day or how much you should exercise, then maybe all the differing answers are just people’s best guesses, because they aren’t hard and fast rules at all…

Hmm… Well, let’s look at some definitions, shall we?

Merriam-Webster defines health as: “the condition of being well or free from disease.”

While the World Health Organization defines health as: “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

…Oh, dear. Not exactly on the same page on that one, are they?

Well surely if you FEEL unwell and go to the doctor, but they don’t find any reason for how you’re feeling, then that means you’re healthy, right?

And I’ve absolutely never heard of anyone having–say–a virus and NOT experiencing any symptoms, so that must mean they’re healthy, right?

I think you get where I’m going with this.

If you came to this post looking for an answer to, “What is health,” then I’m sorry to leave you disappointed. There is no hard and fast definition of what health is, nor are there rules to follow, or bars to reach. Health is as nebulous as it seems.

So with that in mind, how are you going to define it for yourself?

We can do that together!
