Megan’s Knees?!

Couldn’t be me!
I have bad knees.
I’ve always had bad knees.
I’m fat.
I’ve always been fat.
I’ve been told my knees are bad because I’m fat.
I exercise & move my body.
I’ve always exercised & moved my body.
I’ve been told I should exercise more to lose weight to help my knees.
I’ve been told running would help me lose weight and help my bad knees.
I’ve been told I’m too fat to run and it will hurt my knees.
I tried running, didn’t lose any weight, and it made the muscles around my knees feel stronger.
But my knees still felt bad.
I found a doctor who isn’t fatphobic*, and he took my bad knees seriously.
It turns out I have arthritis.
We caught it early, so we’re treating it swiftly.
Because he didn’t just tell me to lose weight.
Because that’s NOT HOW KNEES WORK.
My knees are already better.
Sometimes that’s how this lifelong health & fitness game goes…
So before you decide you are broken, you are bad, you are lazy,
first you need to make sure everybody on your team is actually on your team.
