…The smell of summers gone by…
No, it’s not sunscreen or
Bath & Body Works’ Coconut Lime Verbena lotion.
It’s the smell of–

Skinnygirl White Peach Margarita.
Summertime in my 20s consisted of not only learning how to handle my alcohol, but also (of course) how to keep it calorically low.
THANKS DIET CULTURE! ::thumbs down emoji::

When I decided to become a personal trainer, I knew I was doing it as an alternative to Toxic Fitness Culture. That’s when I discovered Intuitive Eating–the alternative to Diet Culture.
And in becoming an Intuitive Eater, I realized the two aren’t just related:
Diet Culture & Toxic Fitness Culture are inextricably linked.
That’s why Principle #9 of Intuitive Fitness is Intuitive Eating.
As long as there’s a connection in your mind between “burning off” your calories or exercising as a direct reaction to what you’ve consumed, then your ideas about movement and fitness will still be affected by Diet Culture.

I haven’t had any Skinnygirl in years, because–as it turns out–I like just regular ole’ margaritas!
I have no clue how many calories are in a glass.
I don’t even believe in the concept of “healthy” or “unhealthy” foods (or alcoholic beverages).
And now the only food calculations I’m doing while drinking are if I have enough food in my stomach–NOT limiting my food intake to “allow” for the calories of my drinks.
*****
We’re not “earning” our drinks this summer.
Using fitness as a punishment for food is so 2000-and-late.
So enjoy your summer (responsibly) with whatever seasonal treats, goodies, and tastes you like best!

P.S.: I’m thinking about creating an Intuitive Eating program–fitness not included. Let me know if this is something you might even be slightly interested in. I’d love to get feedback about what you’d find most helpful. Just reply to this email with “Intuitive Eating” if that’s a topic you want to hear more about.
